TECHNICAL DETAILS - GENERAL FITTING GUIDELINES

Make sure you fit Hiclone properly. Note that arrow label on the Hiclone that says “engine”, the arrow points to the side which should face the engine. If the label is missing note that the front edge of the curves are curved and the rear edge of the fins are flat. The front curved edge fins should face the airflow. Fit Hiclone tight and snug so that it does not move and the fins meet in the middle. Make sure breather pipes or sensors do not obstruct the swirling airflow. Place Hiclone so the air can swirl uninterrupted.

FOR NORMALLY ASPIRATED ENGINES fit Hiclone in the airhose that connects the air cleaner to the manifold/throttle body. If the engine is fuelled by petrol or LPG than place Hiclone 100-300mm in front of the manifold/throttle body by undoing the hose clip and pushing the Hiclone up the flexible hose. If fitting a diesel engine, then place Hiclone as close as possible to the manifold. After fitting replace the hose and do up the clip and the job is completed. On some engines it might be easier to remove the entire hose by undoing the clips at the both ends.

FOR TURBO CHARGED ENGINES if possible, fit two Hiclones. If an intercooler is present, fit the first Hiclone in the air induction hose that connects the intercooler to the manifold. If an intercooler is not present, fit the first Hiclone in the hose that connects the turbo charger to the manifold. If the engine is fuelled by petrol or LPG then place Hiclone 100-300mm in front of the manifold/throttle body; if fuelled by diesel place it as close as possible to the manifold.

For both types of engines, the second Hiclone should be fitted in the hose that connects the air cleaner to the turbo. It needs to be fitted between 150-300mm in front of the turbo, sometimes a good place to fit this Hiclone is in the air cleaner plastic spigot or casing. On some turbo charged engines it is not possible to fit a Hiclone near the manifold.

On some engines, due to a complex nature of the air hose, it may not be possible to fit Hiclone in the required position. In this case place the Hiclone in the next best position that you can find. This may be the air cleaner housing for example.

Additional Hiclones may benefit certain engines. For instance, Land Rover intercooled engines benefit from having an extra third Hiclone fitted in the intercooler/manifold hose placed near the intercooler. Petrol Freelanders, for instance, benefit from a second Hiclone placed close to the air cleaner.

MEASUREMENT GUIDELINES

Hiclone is ring shaped and has a standard length of 25/40/70 mm (see Types of Hiclone table). It comes in numerous diameters to fit inside various air induction hoses. In order to find out which type of Hiclone is suitable for a particular hose it is vital to measure the diameter of the flexible hose at the points indicated in the illustration which can be found on the next page.
