We are a family of Jeeps. I own a new 04 Grand Cherokee turbo diesel and my wife owns an 01 Wrangler soft top Jeep.
It was with the Wrangler that we wanted to experiment. Basically we wanted noticeably more power and better economy. We did not want to have to start re-chipping the ecu/brain and did not want to start palying around with camshafts etc.
The easiest route to making and engine behave better is to get it to breathe better and let the exhausts out quicker.
So to tackle the breathing we fitted a K@N air filter. This did not produce any noticeable increase in power. We than fitted a Hiclone into the hard plastic of the airbox out pipe. We than fitted another Hiclone about 4 inches back from the inlet manifold.
What can I say - the power increase is fantastic. You really can feel the Jeep pull much better. It is as if someone has fitted a mini supercharger to the vehicle.
Even at standshill. If you simply rev the engine it will rev out too much quicker and the revs do not rest back to idle as quickly as before the Hiclones were fitted. It is as if someone is forcing more air in.
And as for fuel consumption I would say it is about 10% better than before.
So if there are others out there looking for an easy way to make their Jeep behave better I would suggest two Hiclones. You really will notice a great difference.
Onto fitting two Hiclones in the Grand Cherokee for me now.
